May 2026
Labour Day & Buddha
May in Hong Kong is warm and increasingly humid (24–28°C). Labour Day on 1 May brings a long weekend packed with sales and street fairs. The Buddha’s Birthday is celebrated with temple ceremonies, vegetarian feasts, and the iconic Bun Festival on Cheung Chau Island, where climbing towers of steamed buns is the headline act. Dragon boat teams begin training on the harbour, and the city’s outdoor dining scene shifts into high gear.
