This exhibition presents a curated selection of works from the private collection of psychiatrist Dr. Ryutaro Takahashi. Commencing his collection in 1997, Dr. Takahashi has assembled what is arguably one of the most significant private collections of Japanese contemporary art. The exhibition captures the essence of artistic responses to the collapse of Japan’s economic bubble, featuring works that are deeply experimental and socially engaged. By placing these pieces in dialogue with M+’s permanent collection, the exhibition offers a profound reflection on the psychological costs and cultural transformations within contemporary society.
