Highlights
'Fairy Tale Empire' marks a groundbreaking milestone in local theater, presented in collaboration between Boom Theatre and the Hong Kong Arts Centre. This production is the first-ever resident long-running musical in Hong Kong, featuring an all-child cast and setting a new standard for children's arts development in the city.
Program
The story is set within 'Fairy Tale Empire,' a virtual game created by tycoon Kingsley where children can immerse themselves in live-action challenges. Young protagonist Tong-tong and his mother find themselves navigating through game levels inspired by the classic fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen. Through a clever blend of humor and heartfelt drama, the play navigates themes of digital-age parenting, empathy, and the importance of resilience. It is a journey that encourages both parents and children to reflect on their relationship—moving from rigid control to mutual understanding. Life, much like the game in the play, teaches us that winning or losing is secondary to how we pick ourselves up and remain kind.
Performers
The musical is created and directed by Tom Chan, the Artistic Director of Boom Theatre. Having already proven his mastery of long-running musicals with hits like 'Our Journal of Youth' and 'The Men's Club,' Chan continues to innovate with this new family-oriented masterpiece.

Performances take place at the McAulay Studio, Hong Kong Arts Centre, which has been specially reconfigured for this resident series. The venue is conveniently located near the Wan Chai MTR station and is easily accessible via the pedestrian footbridge network.
