About the Programme

Established in 1952, Union Film Enterprises consisted of 21 aspiring filmmakers dedicated to elevating the artistic quality of Cantonese cinema. Their films were not merely entertainment; they were profound reflections of social reality, imbued with educational significance. As part of the "Chinese Culture Festival 2026", this programme revisits the glorious legacy of the Union Film era.

The screening features six representative works of Union Film, offering an opportunity to appreciate these classics on the big screen. The selection includes:

• "Spring" (1953): Adapted from the classic novel by Ba Jin, depicting the clashes between family traditions and the changing times.
• "In the Face of Demolition" (1953): A masterpiece of social realism that epitomizes the spirit of "I for everyone, and everyone for me."
• "Parents' Hearts" (1955): A touching portrayal of parental love.

These films are not just historical artifacts; they express deep human concern and reflection on societal shifts. We invite film enthusiasts to join us at the Hong Kong Film Archive Cinema to experience this precious chapter of cinematic history.

Venue & Access

The screenings will be held at the Hong Kong Film Archive Cinema. Visitors can take the MTR to Sai Wan Ho Station and enjoy a short 5-10 minute walk to the venue. We recommend planning your journey in advance to ensure punctual arrival.
