Hong Kong Performing Arts Expo 2026 Partner Programme: Hong Kong Sinfonietta ‧ Sheng ‧ String Quartet

Overview

As a designated partner programme of the Hong Kong Performing Arts Expo 2026, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta presents an evening of compelling musical exploration at the Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall. Led by Music Director Emeritus Yip Wing-sie, the orchestra will be joined by acclaimed sheng virtuoso Loo Sze-wang and the dynamic Cong Quartet. This performance promises a rich tapestry of sounds, bridging traditional Chinese instrumentation with modern symphonic writing.

The programme highlights the world premiere of A Hong Kong Sound Palette (Sheng Concerto), a work commissioned by the Hong Kong Sinfonietta and composed by Fung Lam. This piece pushes the boundaries of the sheng within an orchestral setting. The concert also features the Hong Kong premiere of Witold Lutosławski’s Concerto for String Quartet and Orchestra (1964), a masterful display of dialogue between the quartet and the orchestra. The evening concludes with the lyrical warmth of Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8 in G Major, Op. 88.
