Program
This concert explores the profound connection between friendship and creativity in Brahms' compositions. Brahms wrote his monumental Violin Concerto in D Major for his close friend and violin virtuoso Joseph Joachim, a work renowned for its technical demands. On this special evening, Paganini International Violin Competition winner Kevin Zhu makes his debut with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) to showcase this masterpiece. Under the baton of conductor Christopher Alstadt, the HK Phil Chorus will also perform two of Brahms’ choral masterpieces: Nänie (Song of Lamentation) and Schicksalslied (Song of Destiny), offering deep reflections on life and legacy.
