Program Overview
SC Gallery is proud to present "Sculpting in Wind," a solo exhibition by artist Ho Lok-chung. This marks the artist's first major solo show in a decade, offering an in-depth exploration of his ceramic practice. Transitioning from a background in painting and woodworking, Ho has dedicated recent years to mastering ceramics. Most of the 13 works featured in this exhibition were created during his one-year residency in the "Porcelain Capital" of Jingdezhen, showcasing a culmination of his research and artistic experiments.
Highlights
The exhibition centers on the concept of "sculpting trees with wind." Ho Lok-chung captures the resilient forms of trees growing in adverse conditions—whether they are tilted by strong gales or transformed into rock-like structures by wind erosion. By scaling up the physical processes of clay manipulation, including rolling and stretching, Ho imbues his ceramics with dynamic textures. These textures act as a visual record of growth, permanently capturing the invisible forces of nature within the clay. The exhibition features large-scale pieces measuring up to two meters wide, pushing the boundaries of the medium and challenging viewer perceptions of ceramic art.
