Overview

"Island Farewell" is a classic Cantonese opera that recounts a poignant historical epic set during the late Southern Song Dynasty. As the Yuan army invades, Zhang Da, a former commander of Chaozhou, lives in seclusion with his wife, Chen Biniang, while training the local clan for defense. When the nation is in peril, Zhang Da resolutely answers the imperial call to duty, only to be captured during the naval battle against Zhang Hongfan. Upon receiving the urgent news, Chen Biniang leads a daring nocturnal raid on the Yuan camp to rescue her husband. Despite facing betrayal and impossible odds, the protagonists display unwavering patriotism and heroism in a tragic sacrifice for their country.
