Theatre Family Classic Play Reading Performance: A Beautiful Day (Round 1)

Overview

Since its premiere in 2013, the classic musical "A Beautiful Day" has become one of Theatre Family's signature productions. This staged reading reinterprets the piece, which was adapted from Thornton Wilder's Pulitzer-winning masterpiece "Our Town," bringing it back to the stage in a minimalist, focused format. Set against the backdrop of 1950s Hong Kong in the fictional "Big River Village," the play follows the life journey of the protagonist, Mei-lai, from birth and growth to her romance with Kiu-sang, marriage, and eventual passing.

Through its poignant narrative, the play invites the audience to contemplate the passage of time. The simple greeting of "Good Morning" takes on new meaning, highlighting how everyday routines often hide the most profound truths about life and love. When Mei-lai longs for one more day, she returns to a seemingly ordinary moment, leading to an extraordinary realization about the essence of existence.
