Overview
Liu Mingyuan, affectionately known as "Commander Hu," stands as a monumental figure in the history of modern Chinese huqin development. His profound mastery across various bowed instruments—including the banhu, erhu, zhonghu, gaohu, and jinghu—earned him this esteemed title within the Chinese music community. This concert, "Commander Hu and the Masters," presented jointly by the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra and the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra Association, pays tribute to this legendary master by celebrating his artistic legacy through the performances of his distinguished disciples.
Performers
This concert features an exceptional lineup of contemporary huqin masters, including Shen Cheng, Li Baoshun, Huo Yonggang, Ma Dongyan, Wei Guanhua, and Zhang Chongxue. Together with the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, they will bring the spirit and brilliance of Master Liu's compositions to life.
Program
The concert highlights classic pieces such as "Henan Folk Tune," "Bow Dance," "Zhongzhou Rhyme," and newly arranged versions of "Happy Celebration + Happy Year." Through the interplay of bowed strings, audiences will experience the boldness and delicate nuance inherent in Master Liu's works.
Ticketing
Patrons who purchase the 50th season main concert package on or before July 31, 2026, can enjoy priority booking offers. Concession tickets are available for full-time students, senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and their minders, and CSSA recipients.
