Highlights
"Golden Memories" is a nostalgic musical journey presented by the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra. As a follow-up to the 49th season's "Unforgettable" concert, this performance explores the rich history of Hong Kong's popular music. Guided by conductor Yan Huichang and enhanced by archival footage from the Hong Kong Museum of History, the concert traces the evolution of local music from pre-war Cantonese opera to the unique "Hong Kong-style period songs" of the late 1970s.
Performers
The concert features the legendary singer Frances Yip. Known for her powerful and resonant vocals, she will perform a selection of classic hits that defined an era in Hong Kong's music history.
Program Introduction
Cantonese opera was once the "pop music" of old Hong Kong, deeply rooted in the daily lives of the people. As the city evolved into a cultural hub, diverse influences, including the charm of old Shanghai music and global melodies, merged to create a distinct Hong Kong sound. This concert serves as a musical love letter to the past, aiming to awaken cherished youth memories and capture the resonance of the era.
