Program
Mei Diyang is one of the most distinguished violists of his generation. Appointed as the Principal Viola of the Berlin Philharmonic in 2022—the first Chinese musician to hold this position in the orchestra's history—he has firmly established his status as a world-class soloist. His career trajectory was further solidified when he claimed first prize at the prestigious ARD International Music Competition in Munich in 2018.
Returning to the HKU MUSE concert series, Mei Diyang presents a monumental three-hour performance of J.S. Bach's complete Cello Suites. Performing on the viola, he brings a unique, rich, and lyrical tonal quality to these masterpieces. Audiences are invited to experience these iconic works through his distinctive, precise, and emotionally resonant interpretation.
