Hosted by Theatre Aether, this summer workshop offers a deep dive into the practice of Butoh for both performing arts professionals and those interested in systematic body exploration. Participants will learn to break through the limitations of everyday bodily movements, develop sensory sensitivity, and create art within a non-verbal dimension.

Program Introduction

The workshop focuses on the themes of "bodily boundaries and transformation." Under the guidance of the instructor, participants will undergo Theatre Aether's foundational training, starting with self-purification to stabilize the body and mind, gradually entering into the heterogeneous imagination of the body. Participants will explore the core techniques of "Butoh-fu" (Butoh notation), using microscopic imagery to manifest transformation within the flesh, helping them discover their own form of non-verbal performance.

About the Instructor

The workshop is led by Tse Ka-ho, an experienced practitioner in Butoh and theatre. Known for his rigorous yet inspiring teaching style, Tse is dedicated to unlocking the potential of performance through physical exploration.

Important Notes

• Eligibility: Aged 16 or above.
• Suitability: No prior dance experience is required; it is ideal for those with backgrounds in movement, theatre, or dance.
• Attire: Please wear loose-fitting, comfortable cotton clothing that allows for a full range of motion.
• Safety: For safety reasons, please do not wear jewelry, glasses, or any sharp items. Participants must look after their own safety and that of others. If you feel uncomfortable, please stop immediately.
• Hygiene: Please ensure good personal hygiene.

Ticketing & Venue

The workshop takes place at 301 Studio, Tai Po Arts Centre. Two ticket tiers are available: a full two-day experience or a single session.
