Program

In the summer of 1945, with Hitler dead but the Pacific war still raging, six of the world's most brilliant German nuclear scientists are held in secret detention at a manor near Cambridge. Isolated from the outside world, these Nobel-laureate minds are left with little more than redacted newspapers, a battered piano, and Noël Coward’s play 'Blithe Spirit' to fill their time. Unknown to them, every moment of their stay is monitored. The tension escalates to a breaking point when they receive the shocking news: the Americans have successfully developed and deployed the atomic bomb. This dramatic turning point anchors the production, offering a gripping look at the human cost of scientific advancement.

Performers

Directed by Yang Ting, the play features an outstanding ensemble cast including Huang Lei, He Jiong, Wu Bi, Zhao Xiaosu, Zhang Lu, and Wang Chenyang. The performance is further elevated by live musical accompaniment from Wang Tao and Chen Xinru, who set the intense and dramatic tone for the evening.
