Exhibition Overview

"We Are the Things Monsters Love" is a compelling portrait photography exhibition that delves into how individuals marginalized by mainstream society construct their own systems of meaning through myth, ritual, and non-traditional intimacy. The project re-imagines Qu Yuan’s 3rd-century BC "Nine Songs" as contemporary Cyberpunk monsters, showcasing a radical process of identity reconstruction.

Artistic Concept

Upon arriving in Hong Kong, photographer Alex Huda found a sense of connection through the local Voidpunk community. Comprised of LGBTQ+ individuals, neurodivergent people, and creative outcasts, this community inspired the artist to embrace his own "Voidsona." The portraits on display were captured using analog medium format film and thermal imaging, designed to visualize the invisible energy flowing within the "un-chosen." For the artist, choosing to be a "monster" is not a gesture of despair, but an act of radical self-empowerment—proving that love and belonging are energies to be nourished from within rather than granted from without.

Production & Collaboration

Led by photographer Alex Huda, this exhibition features collaborative efforts with Holok Chen and the Voidpunk community. The project is proudly supported by the Canada Council for the Arts.
