Smoke and Mountain: Interdisciplinary Group Exhibition

About the Exhibition

To celebrate its 20th anniversary, Ora-Ora presents 'Smoke and Mountain,' a significant interdisciplinary group exhibition located at Tai Kwun, Central. Curated by independent curator Wing-yee Yung, the exhibition pays homage to the historical rosewood furniture trade of Hollywood Road, inviting a dialogue between Hong Kong's past and present.

Curatorial Concept

The exhibition transforms the gallery space into a fictional 'scholar's study.' Through a sophisticated spatial design, Ming dynasty huanghuali furniture, Qing dynasty zitan, and Republican-era rosewood pieces are juxtaposed with contemporary artworks, crafts, and wearable art. This exploration of 'polytemporality' allows ancient and modern elements to coexist seamlessly, reimagining the functionality of traditional furniture and exploring how the landscape is perceived within modern city life.
