National Ecology Day 2026: 'Hong Kong Landscape and Sound-Dance' One-Day Music Festival Extension

In celebration of the 4th National Ecology Day, the Countryside Conservation Office is hosting the 'National Ecology Day Thematic Exhibition 2026' at the East Kowloon Cultural Centre from September 1 to 6, 2026. This event bridges natural ecology with cultural arts, utilizing interactive experiences and exhibitions to raise public awareness regarding Hong Kong's rural culture and natural preservation, embodying the national spirit of 'Green mountains and clear waters are equal to gold and silver mountains.' The 'Hong Kong Landscape and Sound-Dance' music festival extension will take place in the Theatre, offering a sensory feast of photography and music.

Program

The performance features two major components, designed to recreate the stunning world premiere originally held at Ap Chau:

1. A Masterpiece Recreated: Tan Dun’s 'Sound and Dance in Landscape' (Full Special Screening) Based on the philosophical concept of the 'Twelve Earthly Branches,' this production places twelve dancers within the natural landscape, showcasing the majesty and vitality of Hong Kong's Ap Chau geological wonders. The high-quality audiovisual screening allows audiences to relive the epic performance where technology, dance, and nature harmonize.

2. Rural Music Live Performance Led by World Harmonica Festival champion Gordon Lee, alongside violinist Nina Wong and pianist Helen Cha, the live session presents a series of classic works themed around 'Countryside and Nature.' The repertoire includes masterpieces by Tan Dun, Antonio Vivaldi, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Camille Saint-Saëns, Claude Debussy, Henry Mancini, and others, weaving a resonant dialogue between harmonica, violin, and piano to immerse the audience in the sound of nature.

• Gordon Lee (Harmonica Soloist): A World Harmonica Festival champion, internationally acclaimed for his revolutionary playing technique and fusion of Eastern and Western musical traditions.
• Nina Wong (Violinist): Known for her delicate and profound musical interpretation and vibrant, infectious performance style. She is active as a soloist and chamber musician and has collaborated on multiple works by Tan Dun.
• Helen Cha (Pianist): A concert series music director and conservatory artist-in-residence, praised by British critics for her 'profound performance capability.'
