Event Overview
The "Vitality Drum 24 Styles Competition" is not only an annual drumming celebration but also a vital platform for the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra to promote and preserve drumming culture. Marking its 24th anniversary, the competition invites elite drummers to demonstrate their rhythm and strength, embodying a spirit of resilience. In October, the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza and Concert Hall will transform into a vibrant drumming arena, showcasing the power of percussion.
Competition Categories
The event is divided into the "Chinese Drum Group" and "International Drum Group" to engage diverse participants:
- Chinese Drum Group: Includes categories for Kindergarten, Primary, Secondary, Tertiary, Special Schools, Rehabilitation Organizations, Seniors, Beginners, Family, Set Pieces, Freestyle, and the "Future Drum King" challenge.
- International Drum Group: Offers various age-based groups and a freestyle category, encouraging cross-cultural exchange using diverse drums.
- Lion Dance Drumming Group: Features both Traditional and Innovative categories to showcase this rich cultural heritage.
Competition Rules
Participants must perform either the "Vitality Drum 24 Styles" or self-selected pieces depending on the category. Those in the Set Piece category must adhere strictly to the provided score. All teams must submit necessary competition materials, scores, and accompaniments (where applicable) by September 25, 2026. Non-local teams must arrange their own travel and accommodation.
Judging Criteria
Judging is based on rhythmic accuracy, dynamic variety, synchronicity, stage presence, formation, costume, and creativity. Top performers in each category will receive cash prizes and certificates, with winners potentially invited to future performances.
