Overview

The 'Wu Xing' Piano Recital, headlined by renowned Hong Kong pianist KJ Wong, offers a 70-minute immersive musical experience that bridges classical repertoire with Eastern philosophy. Directed by Danny Yung, the performance integrates Arts Tech installations and calligraphy, deconstructing Baroque, Romantic, and modern works to explore the fluid nature of music through the lens of the five elements: Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth.

The concert features ten selected pieces arranged to represent the five elements:

• Earth: Scarlatti's Sonata in B minor, K.87 & Sonata in E major, K.135; Bach's Prelude and Fugue in E major, BWV 878
• Metal: Boulez's 'Douze Notations'
• Water: Sakamoto's 'Aqua'; Debussy's 'Reflets dans l'eau'
• Wood: Deng Yu-xian's 'Longing for the Spring Breeze' (arr. Stephen Hough); He Zhanhao and Chen Gang's 'The Butterfly Lovers'
• Fire: Scriabin's 'Vers la flamme, Op. 72'; Liszt's 'Ballade No. 2 in B minor, S.171'

Venue & Access

The recital will take place at the Sheung Wan Civic Centre, Theatre. Attendees can reach the venue via MTR Sheung Wan Station, following signs to the Sheung Wan Municipal Services Building.
