Highlights
The 'FIRST Creation Platform 2026' at the West Kowloon Cultural District is an immersive journey into the heart of artistic creation. Unlike traditional finished productions, this platform is dedicated to demystifying the 'creative process'. It invites audiences to step into the rehearsal studio and witness firsthand how four groups of local artists develop their experimental and conceptual dance works from scratch. This is a rare opportunity for audiences to engage directly with artists and explore how inspiration germinates, evolves, and takes shape within the vocabulary of movement.
Program
This year's 'FIRST Creation Platform' brings together four choreographers and performers who explore current social issues and body aesthetics through their unique perspectives:
- Chan Wing-yip, Ball!: A veteran street dance performer who merges the rhythms of basketball with hip-hop freestyle. He deconstructs the kinetic energy, gravity, and spatial movement found on the court to find new dimensions of dance, while using rhythm to explore life philosophy.
- Li Tuokun, Bounce, Bounce, Bounce: Independent choreographer Li Tuokun uses the physics of spherical bouncing as a core inspiration. He investigates the kinetic connection between objects and the body, exploring how internalised movement language is transformed once separated from the physical object.
- Holmes Cheung, Convenience Store at the Edge of the World: A cross-disciplinary creator, Holmes Cheung starts with the ubiquitous 'convenience store'. Combining participatory theatre techniques, he delves into the daily experiences of urban laborers, reflecting on the labor landscapes often ignored by the public.
- Genie Lok x Simpson Yau, Harmony and Synthesis: The two dance artists use a duet format to delicately portray the subtle connections between work, emotion, and interpersonal relationships, examining the struggle and harmony of individuals moving between intimacy and alienation.
