Overview

The Hong Kong Culture and Heritage Resources Centre is hosting an insightful book talk featuring historian Ma Koon-yiu. Join us as we journey back in time to explore the historical travel footprints of iconic figures who visited Hong Kong and Guangzhou over the past century.

Program

Drawing from his latest publication, Travels in Hong Kong and Guangzhou: Scenery and Celebrity Footprints of the Century, co-authored with Cheung Wai-chung (published by Cosmos Books Ltd), Ma Koon-yiu uses a rich collection of historical photographs to unveil the tourism culture from the mid-19th to the early 20th century. The book documents visits by luminaries including revolutionary leader Sun Yat-sen, Nobel laureate Albert Einstein, literary giants George Bernard Shaw and Ernest Hemingway, Hollywood star Anna May Wong, silent film master Charlie Chaplin, and the renowned socialite Barbara Hutton. This "virtual time-travel" session invites you to follow in the footsteps of these legends and discover the city's rich, layered travel history.
