Highlights
The "Mei Ho House Family Fun Day 2026" offers an intergenerational cultural experience, inviting families to step away from modern electronics and immerse themselves in the nostalgic atmosphere of 1950s–70s Hong Kong. Parent-Child Workshop I, themed "Light and Shadow / Sound," guides participants in crafting unique shadow puppets. This goes beyond mere craft-making; it is a creative practice to reinterpret past stories through light and shadow. By collaborating, parents and children deepen their emotional bonds while sharing childhood memories across generations.
Program Overview
Organized by the Hong Kong Youth Hostels Association and supported by the "HKJC Community Project Grant: Mei Ho House Hong Kong Spirit Learning Programme" funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, this event looks back at the childhoods of past generations. In an era without smartphones, activities like playing with paper dolls, jackstones, homemade toys, and playing in the streets were the norm. This workshop invites you to revisit those days, using simple materials to create shadow puppets and perform an impromptu light and shadow show. Through these performances, past memories come alive, bridging the gap between generations and passing on the "Mei Ho House Spirit."
