The "Moving ICH" mobile unit is back! For the "2026 Yu Lan Cultural Festival," we are proud to introduce our new public education workshop: "My Exclusive Ma Ye" Paper Model Workshop. This event aims to transform traditional Chaozhou-style papercraft into a modern artistic experience, allowing the public to explore the unique charm of this intangible cultural heritage through hands-on model making.
Highlights
- Modern Craftsmanship: Multimedia artist Tap Chan has reimagined the traditional 'Ma Ye' (Spirit Horse) paper craft, creating a paper model experience suitable for families. It is not just a craft workshop; it is an educational journey into the cultural significance of this ritual artifact.
- Custom Wishes: Participants will assemble their own unique 'Ma Ye' and are invited to write down wishes on their creation. After the workshop, you can either take your 'Ma Ye' home as a souvenir or participate in a symbolic burning ritual, letting your wishes ascend to the heavens.
- Parent-Child Engagement: An excellent opportunity for parents and children to bond while creating art together, blending traditional learning with creative play.
Program Details
The 'Ma Ye' serves as a messenger in traditional Yu Lan festivals. In this workshop, you will step into the shoes of a craftsman to rediscover this important heritage. The session covers:
- Crafting guidance for the paper model
- An introduction to the cultural history of the Spirit Horse
- Wish-writing activity
- (Optional) Participation in a symbolic burning ceremony

- Sessions: Daily at 12:00, 15:00, and 18:00 (approx. 1 hour each)
- Venue: Booth 11, Soccer Pitch 1, Victoria Park, Causeway Bay
- Fee: HK$50 (Deposit, fully refundable upon attendance)
- Requirements: Ages 8 and above; those under 16 must be accompanied by a guardian (both must register).
