Windpipe Chinese Music Ensemble is dedicated to the cultivation and inheritance of Chinese music. This 2026-27 season opening concert, "The Tradition of Future – The Present of Sizhu & Lingnan Soundscapes," serves as both a grand season kick-off and a profound dialogue between traditional Lingnan music culture and contemporary expression. A highlight of the program is the Chinese instrumental ensemble piece "The Peace of Taiping Mountain" by resident composer Wong Hok-yeung, a work subsidized by the 2026 National Arts Fund that captures the local sentiments and historical rhythms of Hong Kong.

This performance brings together outstanding works by distinguished composers, showcasing the vitality of traditional Lingnan musical styles—Cantonese, Chaozhou, and Hakka—within a modern context. The program includes:

• Lu Lianghui: "Cantonese Affection" (Violin and Orchestra, Hong Kong premiere)
• Chan Nga-man: "Hong Kong Street" Suite (Chinese music septet)
• Fong Hiu-man: "Ten Thousand Green Mountains and Waters" (Chinese music septet)
• Chen Si-ang: "Three Cantonese Soundscapes" (Ensemble)
• Shen Wenyou: "Walking in Shantou" (Ensemble, Hong Kong premiere)
• Chiu Chun-ngai: "Breaking the Formation - Contempo" (Ensemble)

Since 2020, Windpipe Chinese Music Ensemble has promoted the "Tradition of Future" project, aiming to build a landscape for local Chinese music. This concert enriches the repertoire of local original chamber music while demonstrating the sustainable value of traditional culture through diverse forms.
