Mei Ho House Family Experience Camp

Overview

Organized by the Hong Kong Youth Hostels Association and supported by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, the Mei Ho House Family Experience Camp is an educational journey designed to bridge the generations. Based on oral history records from "Mei Ho House — We Grew Up in Shek Kip Mei," the camp invites parents and children to step back into 1950s-70s Hong Kong to explore the lives of residents in the old resettlement areas.

Highlights

• Immersive Guided Tour: Led by professional docents, families will explore the Mei Ho House Life Museum. Through reconstructed scenes and historical artifacts, visitors will learn about the communal spirit and living conditions of the past, witnessing how the previous generation overcame adversity with grit and mutual support.
• Interactive Parent-Child Workshops: Participants will engage in storytelling and creative crafting. By creating vintage-style toys and experiencing old-fashioned cottage industries, families will discover the ingenuity and resourcefulness of the era.
• Value Transmission: The workshop aims to strengthen family bonds and impart positive values such as sharing, diligence, and empathy, helping the next generation understand the "Hong Kong Spirit" of perseverance and frugality.

Participation

• Target Audience: Children aged 5-8 or above accompanied by a parent or grandparent. (Registration is per family unit, consisting of one child and one adult).
• Venue: Multi-purpose Room, YHA Mei Ho House Youth Hostel, Shek Kip Mei.
