Presented by the City Contemporary Dance Company, the "HOTPOT East Asia Dance Platform" - Japan Edition brings together two rising stars of the Japanese choreography scene: Shiki Chiri and Ayane Nakagawa. The event showcases four avant-garde works that challenge traditional dance boundaries, exploring the extremes of sensory experience, deep emotional pain, and the nature of individual life choices.

Program

The performance features four distinct contemporary dance pieces:

Works by Shiki Chiri:

• "Gaze/Pain" (如魅・凝痛): Breaks traditional frameworks to probe human fragility, focusing on invisible violence and the "phantom pain" dwelling deep within the flesh.
• "I Pain, Therefore I Am — Stars on Tongue" (我痛故我在—舌上的星星): Inspired by the "Zetsudoku" (tongue reading) used by Hansen's disease patients, this piece re-imagines the tongue as a "third hand" to explore a poignant, sensory-heavy body state.

Works by Ayane Nakagawa:

• "I Choose My Body" (吾擇吾身): Blends traditional Nihon Buyo with Noh masks to explore the right to choose one's destiny and embrace every version of life.
• "Anchor" (錨): Explores women's struggles against gender norms, capturing the intense desire to break free from these constraints and the accompanying existential emptiness.
