Program Overview

Hong Kong indie singer-songwriter Esther Wu presents the 'Mirotopia' Album Launch Concert, celebrating the release of her new conceptual EP at the Fringe Club Underground Theatre. Featuring four original Cantonese and English tracks, the music weaves between jazz and pop sensibilities with delicate textures. The album's core concept is inspired by Michel Foucault's theory of "heterotopia"—spaces that exist apart from everyday reality. Through mirror imagery and reversals, this performance invites the audience to challenge their perceptions of the social frameworks we often take for granted.

"Freedom and Control" lie at the heart of Mirotopia. Through four characters and four narratives, the music and visuals capture the essence of heterotopia, weaving together experiences, subconscious desires, fears, and hopes like a dreamscape. The live performance will feature tracks from the EP alongside reimagined arrangements, classic jazz standards, and brand-new, never-before-heard material, allowing the audience to feel the raw, breathing vitality of the music in real-time.
