Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra: Mahler's Symphony No. 8

Music Director Tarmo Peltokoski opens his inaugural season with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra with Mahler’s Symphony No. 8, widely known as the "Symphony of a Thousand." Rarely performed due to its massive scale, this concert marks the HK Phil's premiere of the work and concludes their ambitious journey through the complete Mahler symphony cycle. Peltokoski describes the work as cosmic, universal, and transcendent, reaching into the deepest layers of human existence.

Performers

The performance features an elite international and local cast, including sopranos Jacquelyn Wagner, Chen Reiss, and Louise Kwong; mezzo-sopranos Catriona Morison and Sasha Cooke; tenor Tuomas Katajala; baritone Rinalds Kandalincevs; and bass Shenyang. They will be joined by the Hong Kong Philharmonic Chorus, The Bach Choir, London Philharmonic Choir, St. Paul's Co-educational College Senior Mixed Choir, Ying Wa College Choir, and The Hong Kong Children's Choir.
