M+ Exhibition: Myth and Monsters: Fantasy Worlds in Asia

Overview

M+ is proud to present a major special exhibition titled 'Myth and Monsters: Fantasy Worlds in Asia,' running from October 17, 2026, to April 4, 2027. This groundbreaking exhibition is the first to comprehensively explore how mythological lore and fantasy imagination have profoundly shaped Asian art, pop culture, and social development, offering a journey through nearly two hundred years of creative fantasy.

Highlights

The exhibition features over four hundred works across diverse disciplines, including art, architecture, fashion, video games, and film. Key attractions include:

• Anime Legends: Original manuscripts by the 'God of Manga' Osamu Tezuka, and cherished drawings from 'Cardcaptor Sakura'.
• Classic Tokusatsu & Anime: Iconic character designs by Toru Narita for the 'Ultraman' series, alongside intricate background artwork from the masterpiece 'Ghost in the Shell'.
• Gaming Visuals: Concept art created by renowned artist Yoshitaka Amano for the 'Final Fantasy' series.
• Contemporary Perspectives: Works by contemporary artists such as Kim Ayoung, Cao Fei, Ho Tzu Nyen, Kongkee, Takashi Murakami, and Lu Yang, offering a deep dive into the evolution of anime aesthetics.
• New Commissions: A site-specific mural titled 'Fear Catcher' created by Hong Kong artist Chan Wing-lun specifically for this exhibition.

Venue & Access

The exhibition is hosted at the M+ Museum in the West Kowloon Cultural District. Visitors are advised to take the MTR to Kowloon Station and access the museum via exits E4 or E5.
