Highlights

Curating goes beyond the mere arrangement of exhibits; it is about conveying concepts and creating spaces for dialogue. The "Opening the Box! The Daily Life of a Curator" workshop aims to deconstruct the complex processes of exhibition planning, from the initial creative sparks to the realization of physical spaces, and finally to engagement with audiences. This is a comprehensive training program that bridges theory and practice, providing a solid guide for those aspiring to enter the art curation field.

Program

Spanning six sessions, the curriculum is structured to guide participants through a full range of practical curatorial exercises:

  • The Starting Point: Exploring the translation of abstract concepts into coherent narratives and research.
  • Space & Archive: Learning how to adapt presentation methods to site conditions and shape the exhibition environment.
  • Large-Scale Events: Breaking down the logistics of managing major arts projects, including resource coordination and budget planning.
  • Education & Engagement: Designing outreach activities to enhance audience participation.
  • Exhibition Writing: Mastering the art of writing compelling exhibition texts to connect with viewers.
  • Presentation & Design: Acquiring foundational skills in exhibition layout, lighting, and installation management.

Participants will also have the opportunity to develop a complete exhibition proposal and receive professional feedback from experienced curators.

The workshop is taught by the core curation team of Open Printshop, including:

  • YUNG Sau-mui: Project Director of Open Printshop, with extensive experience in large-scale art curating and cultural research.
  • WONG Lok-wan, Loraine: Senior Project Manager of Open Printshop, specializing in the contemporary interpretation of traditional crafts.
