Overview

"The Realm of Baizang" exhibition delves into the ancient Chinese concept of "Baizang" (the White Repository), a traditional term for autumn. Unlike the vigorous growth of spring and summer, autumn signifies an inward-looking process of consolidation, where life slows down, energy converges, and traces of existence are preserved in quietude. Curated by Ma Yonghui, this exhibition invites eight distinct artists—Bolin, Ding Li, Gu Qiang, Lai Hongcheng, Lin Mingjun, Mu Zifan, Song Wanjin, and Shuareshezhu—to examine how artistic creation can return to the self after engaging with the external world.

Highlights

Rather than imposing a uniform aesthetic, the exhibition celebrates the tension and distinct characteristics within the works of these eight artists. Visitors can experience the juxtaposition of themes including biological growth, natural transformations, material accumulation, and the resurgence of memory. For the participating artists, "Baizang" is not merely a seasonal reference but an artistic posture: after navigating the complexities of the world, how does an artist choose what to retain, and how does one begin anew from the state of convergence and retraction?
