The "Turning Blessings: Making Jiao Festival Blessing Pinwheels" workshop invites the public to actively participate in the traditions of the Kat O Da Jiao festival. Participants will create unique pinwheels inscribed with their own blessings, which will then be displayed near the opera shed, adding a vibrant and personal touch to this sacred festival that has been held for over 260 years. It is a rare opportunity to combine modern handicraft with local heritage.

Program Introduction

The Kat O Da Jiao festival is a deeply significant traditional event for the Hakka community on the island. Held every ten years for the major "Da Jiao" and every five years for the "Ya Jiao," these rituals serve to appease the dragon veins and pray for favorable weather and peace. This workshop offers more than just a craft session; it provides a meaningful connection to intangible cultural heritage. Under the guidance of instructors, participants will create pinwheels that spin with the wind, carrying their prayers and well-wishes for the future while preserving community spirit.

Important Notes

1. This event is open only to Hong Kong residents holding a valid HKID card.
2. Transportation: Participants are responsible for arranging their own travel to and from Kat O. If traveling via Sha Tau Kok pier, you must apply for a "Frontier Closed Area Permit for Individuals" at least 5 days prior to the event.
3. Ferry Service: Kaito ferry seats are limited and provided as public transport. Please arrive early at the pier to queue for boarding.
4. Please note that the walk from the entrance of Sha Tau Kok Public Pier to the boarding area takes at least 10 minutes; please plan your time accordingly.
5. Safety: This event takes place outdoors. Participants must assess their own physical condition and assume all risks. The organizers hold no liability for any personal injury or property loss during the event.
