Celebrating two decades of artistic excellence, Theatre Ronin presents a special gala commemorating its 20th anniversary. This event features the revival of two cornerstone productions: 'Landscape In the Mist,' adapted from Shu Xiangcheng's novel, and 'The Mariana Trench' (Plain Version), the company's debut work, both epitomizing the troupe's dedication to literary theatre. The anniversary also includes film screenings of the acclaimed productions 'Burmese Days' and 'Practice of Zen: Theatre Movie,' alongside a Literary Theatre Forum gathering distinguished scholars and critics to reflect on the company's creative journey.

Program

The 20th Anniversary Gala lineup includes:

• 'Landscape In the Mist': Adapted from Shu Xiangcheng's classic novel, this piece weaves together actors, shadow puppetry, and object theatre to evoke nostalgia for old Hong Kong.
• 'The Mariana Trench' (Plain Version): A return to the roots of the production, utilizing minimal staging and live music to explore the life stories of 'Ma Jie' (amahs) and modern-day loneliness.
• 'Burmese Days' (Screening): Based on George Orwell's novel, this adaptation examines power, love, and identity in colonial Burma.
• 'Practice of Zen: Theatre Movie': A cinematic adaptation of wuxia literature fused with cyberpunk aesthetics.
• Literary Theatre Forum: A dialogue featuring Professor Chu Yiu-wai, Professor Wong Nim-yan, Ms. Chan Kwok-wai, and Artistic Director Tam Kong-man to discuss the evolution of theatre and literature.
