Sun and Moon Together: Kat O Art Tour - Performance Series

Overview

Following the 'Sun and Moon Together: Sha Tau Kok Island-Hopping Tour' in May, this artistic journey docks at the remote island of Kat O this October. Coinciding with the An Lung Ching Chiu (Peaceful Dragon Ritual), this art tour offers a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in Hakka and seafaring traditions. Using 'Sun' to represent energy and adventure, and 'Moon' to symbolize tranquility and reflection, the event combines art installations, workshops, and live performances to create a unique cultural tapestry.

Highlights

• 'Heart of the Sea • Blooming Light': An outdoor dance performance at the Tin Hau Temple Square, choreographed by Ning Ming-man. It interprets the story of pearl formation through dance, resonating with the natural and cultural spirit of Kat O.
• Cultural Dialogue: The program includes shed-theatre music, street puppetry, and performances, blending contemporary art perspectives with traditional crafts like deity plays and hand-held puppetry.
• Sustainable Cultural Tourism: By weaving together village memories, the project aims to preserve rural culture and promote sustainable cultural tourism.

Performers

Jointly presented by The Conservancy Association and Fragrant Village, this event brings together cross-disciplinary artists from Hong Kong and Shenzhen, with active participation from local and overseas villagers.

Venue & Access

Performances take place at various locations on Kat O, including the main opera shed, Tin Hau Temple Square, and Fisherman's Square. As Kat O is located in a restricted border area, participants must arrange their own transport. If traveling via Sha Tau Kok, you must apply for a 'Closed Area Permit' at least five days before the event. Please pay close attention to ferry schedules and arrival times.
