Highlights

Join us at the Centre for Heritage, Arts and Textile (CHAT) for the 'Baijia' Patchwork Placemat Workshop. This event offers a deep dive into the history and cultural significance of the traditional 'Hundred-family quilt' (Baijia bei). Under the expert guidance of artisan Josianne Robb, you will learn to transform scraps of fabric into beautiful, functional placemats.

Program

During this four-hour workshop, participants will master the core techniques of quilting, including:

  • Geometric Design & Composition: Learning how to conceive and arrange patterns.
  • Cutting & Stitching: Mastering the basics of sewing and piecework.
  • Quilting Basics: Understanding how to add texture and structure to your work.

Choose between two festive themes: the Christmas theme in late November featuring red and green palettes, or the Lunar New Year theme in early January using red and gold tones. This is a unique opportunity to create a handmade item for your home or as a gift.

This workshop is an extension activity for the 'From Life to Life: The Fabric of Our Lives' exhibition at The D.H. Chen Foundation Gallery, designed to help the public appreciate the heritage of textile crafts in Hong Kong.
