Hong Kong Dance Company Dance Drama: 'Martial Dance' – Bruce Lee's Way and Infinity

Highlights

• Star-studded Creative Team: Directed by Hong Kong Dance Company's Artistic Director Yang Yuntao, in collaboration with Hong Kong Film Award-winning Art Director Man Lim-chung and jazz composer Ray Leung, this production is a masterclass in interdisciplinary art.
• Fusion of Martial Arts and Dance: The performance brilliantly fuses traditional martial arts (Wing Chun, Jeet Kune Do) with contemporary dance, underscored by live jazz music, embodying Bruce Lee's philosophical concept of being 'like water.'
• Captivating Audiences: Following successful runs at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre and the Shanghai International Dance Center, this production has captivated nearly 10,000 spectators with its stunning multimedia stage design and fluid ink-wash aesthetics.

Program

As a landmark production for the Hong Kong Dance Company’s 45th anniversary, 'Martial Dance' is a profound exploration of 'Wu' (Martial) and 'Dao' (Philosophy). Inspired by Bruce Lee's belief that martial arts are the best way to understand oneself, Director Yang Yuntao has trained the dancers in martial disciplines to internalize every movement. Art Director Man Lim-chung brings his cinematic background to the stage, constructing an immersive environment of shifting ink-wash visuals and multi-media calligraphy. The show is not only a tribute to the legendary Bruce Lee but also a testament to Hong Kong's unique position as a hub for cultural and artistic exchange.
