Overview
Presented by Serakai Studio at their dedicated art space, GOLD, the participatory exhibition "records" offers an immersive journey into the world of sound media. This exhibition explores the era before the ubiquity of digital formats, utilizing the conceptual framework of "A/B sides" of a vinyl record to guide visitors through the evolution of recorded sound.
Highlights
- The Dual-Zone Concept: The exhibition is divided into two distinct sections that mirror the sides of a vinyl record, creating a dialogue between different facets of sound history.
- Active Listening Stations: Featuring three curated listening stations, the exhibition invites visitors to become active participants. You are invited to select and play specific works, allowing you to curate your own auditory journey and contribute to the shifting soundscape of the space.
- Conceptual & Experimental Art: Beyond just listening, the exhibition bridges the gap between music history, experimental sound practices, and conceptual art.
Program
- Side A: "Experimental Sound: Asia": Celebrates the spirit of exploration within the recording medium and the pure joy of experimentation, focusing on experimental works originating from Asia.
- Side B: Features the profound art installation "We Buy White Albums" (2006–2025) by artist Rutherford Chang. This section looks back at a pivotal moment in pop music history while touching upon the core tenets of minimalism and conceptual art.
