A Poignant Tale of Freedom and Belonging
Direct from the inaugural Kite Project by the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre (HKRep), the theatrical production Migratory Birds is set to make its highly anticipated debut. Originally conceived as a workshop piece, this work has been refined through two intensive reading cycles to become a full-scale performance presented by Pencil Production.
The Story
"Wishing you freedom wherever you go."
At the heart of the narrative is Ada, a 17-year-old aspiring baseball player who, after a bitter clash with his mother over his future, runs away from home in a fit of rage. He ends up working on a farm belonging to Uncle Hou, a 78-year-old man who has spent his entire life tending to the land, only to face an imminent threat of eviction. As a brewing storm threatens to tear through their sanctuary, the two strangers find themselves trapped in an unexpected intergenerational dialogue about life, loss, and the true meaning of home.
Artistic Excellence
Under the direction of Li Chi-tat, this production features a stellar cast including Chung Yik-chun, Tang Wai-kit, and Leung Tin-chak. The creative team has meticulously crafted every visual element, with set design by LCM and lighting by Tsang Tsz-chun, ensuring that the audience is fully immersed in this emotional journey.
Related Activities
To deepen the engagement, the production features three exclusive Post-show Sharing Sessions where audience members can interact with renowned guests. We encourage you to join these discussions to explore the themes of urban agriculture and the complexity of modern family dynamics.
