GayBird 'Following Instructions' Stage Experiment @ Unbox EKCC 2026

Program

Interdisciplinary artist GayBird presents 'Following Instructions,' an experimental, stage-based project part of the 'Unbox EKCC 2026' series. This project serves as an artistic research experiment exploring the evolving concept of 'performance' in the digital era. By seamlessly integrating virtual gaming environments, guided sound walks, and immersive audio-visual installations, the project blurs the boundaries between physical presence and virtual reality. The East Kowloon Cultural Centre is transformed into a living stage, where the movements of the audience and ambient environment become integral components of the performance, creating a unique and evolving narrative landscape.

Highlights

• Interdisciplinary Exploration: The project challenges traditional notions of theatrical performance, using digital technology to disrupt and recontextualize everyday reality, encouraging participants to contemplate how technology reshapes human perception.
• Site-Specific Experience: By utilizing the public spaces of the East Kowloon Cultural Centre, the performance invites audience members to physically participate in the process, turning the act of following instructions into a meditative and interactive journey.
• Post-Show Engagement: Each session features a post-show artist talk, providing a platform for direct dialogue between the creator and the audience regarding the creative process and the themes of the experiment.
