An Enchanting Musical Adventure

Following the success of previous family-friendly concerts like Baby's World Music and Baby's Winter Jazz World, the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra (HKCO) returns with a brand-new production: Music Magic – Magical Five Tones. This interactive musical theatre production is curated by the acclaimed composer and music director Ng Cheuk-yin, promising an immersive experience that blends traditional Chinese music with storytelling.

The Journey to Dunhuang

The performance transports audiences—both young and young-at-heart—on a mysterious adventure inspired by the legendary Dunhuang, a cradle of Silk Road culture. Explorer Lok Wan-wah takes the lead as the host and singer, guiding the audience through the "Magical Five Tones." Alongside the talented musicians of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra and the special guest Little Flower Choir, the show weaves together narrative, melody, and rhythm to introduce the beauty of Chinese instruments in a way that is accessible and captivating for children aged 2 and above.

Programme Highlights

This show is part of the International Arts Carnival 2026, a summer highlight in Hong Kong. It is designed to spark creativity and offer an introduction to the world of Chinese music without the formality of a traditional concert. The production team, including director Kwok Wing-tung and scriptwriter Wan Cheuk-yin, has crafted a seamless blend of music and theatre that minimizes rigid structures, allowing for a more fluid and engaging experience. The show lasts approximately 60 minutes with no intermission, making it perfect for families seeking a meaningful yet accessible afternoon activity.
