Overview
This course invites participants to embark on an immersive journey into the heart of traditional Chinese calligraphy and seal carving. Over the course of eight sessions, students will delve into the fusion of literary elegance and manual craftsmanship.
During the first five sessions, participants will study and practice calligraphy using the renowned work 'Ode to the Red Cliff' by the Yuan Dynasty master Zhao Mengfu. This practice helps students master the structural nuances and fluid lines of semi-cursive script (Xingshu), allowing them to express emotion and artistry through brush and paper. The subsequent three sessions shift focus to the study of seal script (Zhuanshu) and include hands-on instruction in crafting a personalized name seal, allowing students to apply their skills to a practical, artistic creation.
