An Exploration of Connection
SHIFT Dance Company proudly presents its debut production, COMMON GROUNDS, a captivating dance performance that brings together a diverse array of artists, choreographic voices, and artistic styles. Through the shared, transcendent language of dance, this production seeks to explore the complexities of human connection in an increasingly globalized world.
Artistic Vision and Choreography
The performance features the premiere of four unique works, showcasing the artistic vision of SHIFT Director Kelsey Ang, alongside talented SHIFT artists Carlos Mendoza and Jon Ferrer. The programme also features internationally acclaimed guest choreographers, including Ashvinder Singh (Philippines) and Dario Dinuzzi (Italy/Canada). These pieces, presented by a dedicated ensemble of SHIFT company artists and promising youth performers, delve into the intersection of cultural hybridity, identity, and the fluid nature of human interaction.
Drawing inspiration from the "Third Culture Kid" (TCK) experience, the work navigates the perpetual identity crisis of those who grew up between cultures. It uses dance to escape nationalistic boundaries, celebrating the idea that our common ground lies in our shared human story.
Venue: The Box, Freespace
The performance will take place at The Box, Freespace, located in the heart of the West Kowloon Cultural District. As the largest black box theatre in Hong Kong, The Box is renowned for its flexible design and intimate setting, providing an immersive environment perfectly suited for contemporary dance.
