Highlights
In celebration of the 29th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland, the Hong Kong String Orchestra presents "Stringing 29 Years Together: A Concert." This artistic event serves as a bridge between Eastern culture and human emotions through the medium of strings. Under the baton of renowned conductor Yang Yang and featuring founder and violinist Jue Yao, the program balances national tradition with a global vision.
Program
The first half features Western nationalistic masterpieces, including Sibelius's elegant Andante Festivo, Bartók's vibrant Romanian Folk Dances, and Dvořák's lush Serenade for Strings in E Major, Op. 22. These pieces explore deep folk sentiments within the Western string tradition.
The second half spotlights contemporary Chinese compositions. Guo Wenjing’s Chinese Folk Song Suite portrays the diverse landscapes of the Chinese heartland. Notably, the orchestra commissioned composer Eliot Leung to write Kowloon, a four-movement work performed by Jue Yao, which traces the legend, history, and vibrant future of the Kowloon district.
