As a highlight of the Asian Avant-Garde Film Festival 2026: Space Enter Shift, M+ proudly presents the Asia premiere of the science-fiction work A Sunken Tale of Losses Delayed (2026) by the acclaimed artist duo Larissa Sansour and Søren Lind.
The Programme
This unique screening at the Grand Stair challenges perceptions of physical space, temporality, and historical objects. Before the film begins, audience members will witness a brief opening narrative performance, setting the stage for the film’s exploration of colonial history and future possibilities.
A Sunken Tale of Losses Delayed follows a Palestinian pirate captain (played by Maisa Abd Elhadi) as she boards imperial vessels to reclaim looted colonial artefacts, returning them to their rightful owners. Amidst this voyage, a merchant bound for the 1900 Paris Exposition encounters ghostly figures, offering unsettling insights into a future fraught with both promise and uncertainty.
Artist Dialogue
Following the screening, the event features an artist talk with Larissa Sansour and Søren Lind, moderated by Sunny Cheung, Curator, Design and Architecture, M+. This conversation will be conducted in English and provides deep insight into the artists' creative practice and their recurring themes of displacement and代際創傷 (intergenerational trauma).
Festival Context & Related Activities
This event is part of a larger, vibrant three-day festival (29–31 May 2026) celebrating Asian avant-garde cinema.
