As a highlight of the Asian Avant-Garde Film Festival 2026: Space Enter Shift, M+ proudly presents the Asia premiere of the science-fiction work A Sunken Tale of Losses Delayed (2026) by the acclaimed artist duo Larissa Sansour and Søren Lind.

The Programme

This unique screening at the Grand Stair challenges perceptions of physical space, temporality, and historical objects. Before the film begins, audience members will witness a brief opening narrative performance, setting the stage for the film’s exploration of colonial history and future possibilities.

A Sunken Tale of Losses Delayed follows a Palestinian pirate captain (played by Maisa Abd Elhadi) as she boards imperial vessels to reclaim looted colonial artefacts, returning them to their rightful owners. Amidst this voyage, a merchant bound for the 1900 Paris Exposition encounters ghostly figures, offering unsettling insights into a future fraught with both promise and uncertainty.

Artist Dialogue

Following the screening, the event features an artist talk with Larissa Sansour and Søren Lind, moderated by Sunny Cheung, Curator, Design and Architecture, M+. This conversation will be conducted in English and provides deep insight into the artists' creative practice and their recurring themes of displacement and代際創傷 (intergenerational trauma).

This event is part of a larger, vibrant three-day festival (29–31 May 2026) celebrating Asian avant-garde cinema.

  • Festival Pass & Networking: The festival offers various ticketing options including the Festival Pass (HKD 750 / Concession HKD 600) and Day Passes. Holders are invited to the exclusive festival party, 'In the Zone: A Happening', on 30 May 2026 at the M+ Horizon Terrace, featuring experimental performances by guests such as David Boring, Daham Park, and Zheng Mahler.

We also highly recommend checking out other festival segments, such as the spotlight on Asian Avant-Garde Film Collection, and the free-to-attend workshops at the Festival Lounge.
