Highlights
"Monthly: Kids' Home Base" is a creative play space dedicated to children and families in the community. Organized by the Age-Friendly Lab and the ELCHK Social Service Division, this June event invites everyone to step into a world of imagination and connection, where community memories and relationships are fostered through storytelling and free-form creation.
Program
The June session features three core activities:
- Story Corner: Led by picture book artist Maoshan Connie. Through insightful reading sessions, children and parents will rediscover the charm of community stories and emotional connections buried within the pages of illustrated books.
- No-Score Playground: An experimental play area that champions freedom. Featuring materials like cardboard and wooden frames, children can build to their heart's content. The space also includes kitchen-themed roleplay props and traditional games like shuttlecock kicking and rubber band skipping, allowing adults to revisit their childhood while kids experiment with new ideas.
- Messy Art Play: A five-sense exploration game that combines pigments with various art tools. This activity guides children through an open-ended artistic journey, focusing on sensory discovery and unleashing their imagination in an unrestricted environment.
Performers
The resident artist mentor for this event is Maoshan Connie. With a background in architecture and later studies in children's literature, Connie creates illustrations that share meaningful messages with the world, often collaborating with non-profit organizations on topics ranging from end-of-life education to tree conservation and caring for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Venue & Access
The event will take place at Luk Heung Commons, a hub for community activities that strives to offer a safe, inclusive, and open environment for play.
