Highlights

In the 2026-27 season, the Hong Kong Repertory Theatre presents "Post-Ah Q," a bold new adaptation by Artistic Director Poon Wai-sum. Based on Lu Xun’s literary classic "The True Story of Ah Q," this production, helmed by director Li Jianjun, injects new vitality into the iconic character. Li brings his signature theatrical aesthetic, blending live performance with real-time video to plunge the audience into an unpredictable "Ah Q multiverse."

Program Introduction

"Post-Ah Q" sees the character transcending time to arrive in contemporary Hong Kong. Classic literary elements collide with modern reality—Ah Q eats Shunde grass carp, sings pop songs, and discusses traditional virtues. Is it a dream, or a reflection of our reality? Through this reinterpretation, the production explores the symbolic meaning of "Q": is it Quick, Quiet, or a Question? This performance serves as a profound interrogation of the modern human psyche.
