A special exhibition segment curated by Kila Cheung featuring the works of his daughter.
This special project within the main exhibition presents works by Kila's daughter,章日光. It explores the themes of innocence, raw expression, and the fundamental life-force that predates learned artistic maturity.
An Exploration of Human Vitality
Contemporary Hong Kong artist Kila Cheung (章柱基) presents his highly anticipated solo exhibition, Living Living Artist, at the Tang Contemporary Art (Hong Kong) space in Wong Chuk Hang. Running from May 30 to July 12, 2026, this exhibition features approximately 17 new works, including paintings, wood sculptures, and immersive site-specific installations.
The Exhibition Concept
In an era dominated by AI-generated imagery and the rapid evolution of technology, Kila challenges the definition of an artist's identity. He questions whether human creativity can truly be replaced by algorithms. His response is a focus on the "unsubstitutable" aspects of human existence: our experience of time, stress, joy, sorrow, and the subtle, raw connections we form with the world. As noted by the acclaimed artist Yoshitomo Nara in the preface of Kila's book Rambler, there is a powerful, pulsing soul within Kila’s work that extends beyond the surface.
The Heart of the Exhibition
Central to the exhibition is Kila’s commitment to capturing "life-force." This is exemplified through poignant works such as The Drifting House (2018) and Zero Distance (2026). The artist highlights that creation for him is an instinctive reaction to the everyday—the trivial, the global events, and the emotional resonance of shared human experience.
Related Activity: 'Living Living 5-year-old Artist'
We are particularly excited to highlight the sub-exhibition: Living Living 5-year-old Artist. This "exhibition-within-an-exhibition" is curated by Kila and features the artistic contributions of his daughter, 章日光. This collaboration extends the theme of the "living artist" to the next generation. It provides a unique lens into the pure, uninhibited creativity of a child, reminding viewers that the most fundamental perceptions of truth and life exist before they are shaped by societal maturation.
