Program

Divided into four distinct chapters, the exhibition maps the history and evolution of fantasy in Asian visual culture:

  1. Pre-modern Traditions: Examining foundational elements in Japanese Ukiyo-e, Indonesian shadow puppetry, and Tibetan Thangka paintings.
  2. 20th Century Developments: Tracing the spread of Surrealism across Asia and the rise of post-war Japanese manga and anime.
  3. Contemporary Aesthetics: Highlighting the profound impact of anime aesthetics on video games, digital culture, film, and modern media.
  4. Cross-disciplinary Flow: Exploring how these creative forms transcend geographical and medium boundaries, shaping modern design, fashion, and architecture.

Venue & Access
