About the Exhibition
"Offline Memories: Archive of Hong Kong LGBTQ+ Printed Matter in the Pre-Internet Era" is a unique exhibition exploring history, memory, and queer futures. Drawing inspiration from the Hong Kong LGBTQ+ Archive (hklgbtqarchive.com), the exhibition features a vast collection of over 1,000 artifacts from the early 1990s to the 2000s, including newsletters, independent publications, personal letters, and HIV educational pamphlets.
Highlights
Rather than a simple display, the exhibition brings together eight Hong Kong queer and transgender artists of various generations. They utilize diverse mediums such as video art, computer games, mixed-media sculptures, installations, poetry, encaustic painting, and expanded photography to transform these archives into living memories for the future. The artists appropriate and reconstruct these printed materials, reinterpreting the trans-temporal significance of queer identity.
