Stage management is the backbone of any performing arts production, serving as the essential link between performers and the backstage technical crew to ensure seamless execution. This foundational course, presented by the HKAPA EXCEL, is designed to provide aspiring stage managers with a systematic introduction to theatre operations and production management.
Highlights
The curriculum bridges the gap between theatre theory and practical application, ensuring participants understand the comprehensive responsibilities of a stage manager. Key topics covered include:
- Production Roles & Responsibilities: Understanding the function of stage management throughout the rehearsal and performance periods.
- Theatre Protocols & Safety: Acquiring knowledge of standard equipment, industry terminology, and critical theatre safety regulations.
- Organization & Documentation: Learning to prepare effective prompt books, track blocking, and manage production budgets.
- Interdepartmental Collaboration: Developing communication strategies to coordinate effectively with lighting, sound, and scenic design departments.
- Show Control: Mastering cueing techniques and various production management workflows.
Upon completion, students will have the opportunity to participate in a practical workshop in a real theatre setting, offering direct exposure to professional operations. Note that the inclusion of the practical session depends on enrollment numbers and will be confirmed alongside the specific date and venue.
